Alien abductions, moral AI and a race across the lunar surface.
The Complete Lunar Escape and The Last Stop
To catch everyone up, there are now two complete stories up on Armchair Alien. Time seems to have raced since we set this site up in May! Thank you to everyone for tuning in. More great stories are in the queue, including something new and exciting starting next week—a delve into the darker, sinister world of Urban Fantasy.
Because the archives are already unwieldily, here’s the links and descriptions of the scifi stories so far:
The Last Stop
First up was the four part The Last Stop where an AI in charge of a captive human struggles to do the right thing. The story starts here.
If you’d prefer an epub version, you can find that here (note the original name of the story was Escape Pod, I changed it when I realized there’s a podcast using the same name)
Lunar Escape
An asteroid hurling towards Earth harbours a secret.
After years of captaining a cramped, Conglomerate owned survey ship, Lucas Ordaz is ready to retire and live his dream life on solid ground beside the love of his life. There’s just one last mission: before Earth’s defences obliterate the asteroid, Lucas needs to shuttle a scientist out to study it.
The scientist’s ambitions are set on fire when they discover a potentially alien object on the asteroid. She forces the reluctant crew to attempt bringing it aboard, and chaos ensues.
Lucas wakes up in an abandoned lunar mining facility, without a clue of what that object was or who he can trust. Most importantly, he has to find a way to make it home.
This 17 part story starts here. And if you’d prefer an epub copy, grab it here.
Join Lucas and a new crew as they try to create better lives on a barren world a wormhole away from Earth (spoiler alert—nothing goes smoothly starting with a crashed colony ship that nearly kills them all). Book 1, Day 115 on an Alien World, is currently free in all the shops so grab your copy today.
Coming Soon…
Fractured Orbits, the first instalment of the Encoded Orbits trilogy, is still on its way. The novel is currently with my editor—I want to make sure it’s a solid story and typo free (mostly) before releasing it. There’s been some delays, as a result I expect to start releasing chapters in October 2021. Here’s a description:
First they took Veena's husband, then her home and now they took her daughter.
As part of The Protectorate's war effort, Veena Oswiu is seconded to a top secret military unit to decode enemy messages and she brought her daughter, Molly, with her. Seven year old Molly is manifesting telekinetic powers, and now that they live on a military base, Veena has to work hard to hid them.
When Veena's husband is reported missing from the front line unit he belongs to, Molly losses it and publicly uses her powers. A secret military unit takes her away.
Veena will stop at nothing to get her girl back.
If you’d like a look at the first chapter (still a work in progress), check it out here.
Whew! That was a lot of links. Thanks again for joining us at Armchair Alien. And please feel free to share this post around if you know anyone who’d enjoy a scifi distraction.
